OSHOALA PLEDGES TO KEEP EMPOWERING NIGERIAN GIRLS THROUGH HER FOOTBALL ACADEMY
Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala is not just scoring goals on the football field—she’s also changing lives through her Asisat Oshoala Academy. The Nigerian football icon has reaffirmed her commitment to using her platform to empower young girls in Nigeria, helping them build brighter futures through football, education, and vocational training.
In a heartfelt statement, Oshoala reflected on the second year of her academy, which was launched in partnership with Nike and Women Win. She shared that the goal of the academy goes far beyond developing football skills.
“We’re not just teaching football; we’re providing life skills education, creating a safe space, and fostering a sense of community,” she said.
According to Oshoala, the academy has already begun producing real success stories. Girls who once played on the streets of Lagos have gone on to represent Nigeria at international tournaments like the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup. Others have earned scholarships and launched careers in fashion design, hairdressing, and more.
“Football can open doors,” she emphasized, “but it’s crucial to equip these young women with options and skills that set them up for life—whether or not they continue to play.”
More Than Just a Game
Oshoala’s academy is also committed to community outreach, reaching more girls and encouraging them to dream big. Her long-term vision is to expand the program and inspire others to create similar initiatives across Nigeria and beyond.
“Imagine if we could replicate this holistic approach in other communities, in other sports, in other sectors!” she said.
Now, she’s calling for support from individuals, brands, and organizations to help take the academy to new heights. From donations and sponsorships to in-kind contributions, Oshoala says every bit of support can directly change the lives of the girls in her program.
