Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has inaugurated the Agbura–Oxbow Lake Road and the Oporoma Referral Hospital in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Osinbajo performed the commissioning on Monday during an official visit to the state, where he was received by Governor Douye Diri.

The former vice president praised the state government for delivering infrastructure projects he described as “life-transforming,” noting that the new road connects key government and federal institutions in Bayelsa, including the NCDMB Towers, the Federal Secretariat, and the CBN office.

He also highlighted the economic and historical importance of the road, saying it improves access to several riverine communities and connects areas linked to Nigeria’s oil discovery heritage in Oloibiri.

According to him, the project demonstrates the impact of consistent governance and continuity in infrastructure development, especially in difficult terrain.

Governor Diri, in his remarks, recalled that Osinbajo had earlier flagged off the Angiama–Oporoma Bridge project in 2022, despite initial doubts about its feasibility due to the difficult environment.

He added that the completed projects have already created jobs for local youths and improved transportation across several riverine communities in the state.

Diri described Osinbajo’s return to commission the completed projects as a full-circle moment, highlighting what he called a successful example of infrastructure delivery in the Niger Delta region.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
