Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed confidence that with divine guidance and the continued support of the people, he will secure re-election later this year.

The governor made the remarks on Monday during a New Year interfaith prayer session at the State Secretariat, which was attended by labour leaders, religious figures, and public servants.

Reflecting on his three years in office, Adeleke said his administration had overcome numerous challenges and was prepared to tackle the hurdles ahead of the forthcoming election.

“Our God has remained our sustainer, defender, and protector. From the very beginning, He has fought our battles for us. Those who rise against us are confronted by a higher power,” he said.

He described his administration as a testament to “divine grace,” noting that it had prevailed over obstacles that once seemed insurmountable.

“We are living proof that God rules in the affairs of men. Time and again, we have overcome challenges and emerged victorious. As God remains the same yesterday, today, and forever, we shall continue to prevail and remain undefeated,” Adeleke declared.

The governor also highlighted key achievements of his administration, emphasizing people-centered policies and tangible results across major sectors of the state’s economy.

“From my first day in office, we prioritized programs that directly impact the lives of our people. Three years on, we have kept faith with Osun residents and honoured our promises,” he said.

Among the accomplishments listed were interventions for senior citizens, support for the poor and vulnerable, rehabilitation of roads and bridges, empowerment of artisans, and efforts to address challenges in education and healthcare.

Adeleke added that his administration was gradually resolving inherited salary and pension arrears, despite skepticism from political opponents.

“Under very difficult circumstances, we are addressing half-salary payments and pension backlogs that some claimed were impossible to resolve. We have ensured that Osun resources work for Osun people and created a more enabling environment for investors,” he said.

Earlier, the Osun State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, reaffirmed labour’s support for Adeleke, declaring that workers would vote en masse for him in the August 8, 2026 governorship election.

Religious leaders also offered prayers and goodwill messages. The Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animasaun, and the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, Dr. John Adeleke, commended the governor’s consistent public display of faith and prayed for divine guidance to help address the state’s challenges and smooth his path to re-election.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
