OSUN APC OPPOSES ADELEKE’S PLAN TO REHABILITATE BRIDGE

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has opposed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s plan to rehabilitate a major bridge in the state, describing the project as a political gimmick and a waste of public funds.

The APC State Chairman, Mr. Gboyega Famodun, made the position of the party known on Friday during a press conference in Osogbo. He argued that the bridge in question does not require immediate rehabilitation and that the governor is using the project to divert attention from pressing issues facing the state.

“This bridge is still very functional. The governor’s sudden interest in rehabilitating it is suspicious and politically motivated. We will not allow him to waste the state’s resources on unnecessary projects,” Famodun stated.

The APC called on the state government to focus on more critical infrastructure needs and provide basic amenities for the people. The party also urged the governor to prioritise the completion of ongoing projects rather than starting new ones for political reasons.

The Osun State Government has defended the bridge rehabilitation plan, saying it is necessary to prevent potential collapse and ensure the safety of commuters. The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Adebayo Babatunde, said the project will be executed with the highest standards of quality and transparency.

The disagreement over the bridge rehabilitation has further heightened the political tension between the ruling PDP and the opposition APC in Osun State. Political observers believe the issue could become a major campaign topic ahead of future elections.

Stakeholders have called for a more objective assessment of the bridge’s condition and for the project to be handled in the best interest of the people. The state government has assured that due process will be followed and that the project will be awarded to a competent contractor.

The APC has vowed to monitor the project closely and resist any attempt to misuse public funds for political gains.
