OSUN FA URGES DEPUTY GOV TO SAVE TEAMS FROM RELEGATION
The Chairman of the Osun State Football Association has called for urgent government intervention to prevent two state-owned teams from being relegated from their respective leagues.
Osun United, the male team competing in the Nationwide League, is currently struggling in seventh position in Group B, placing it among teams at risk of relegation unless results improve. Similarly, Osun Babes, the state’s female team in the Women’s Premier League, is also facing a possible drop after a series of poor performances.
Reacting to the situation, the Osun FA Chairman, Sola Fanawopo, urged the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, who also serves as Commissioner for Sports, to take immediate action.
Fanawopo said both teams are battling relegation due to poor welfare, inadequate support, and declining operational standards, which have affected players’ morale and performance.
“It is important for the Honourable Deputy Governor to take a hands-on approach, visit the players’ hostels, inspect team buses, and attend matches to fully understand how critical the situation has become,” he said.
He stressed the need for swift and decisive intervention to stabilise the teams, improve welfare conditions, and preserve Osun State’s football standing.
