OTTI REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO SECURITY IN ABIA
Alex Otti has reiterated that security remains a top priority for his administration, stressing that meaningful development cannot thrive in an unsafe environment.
Otti made the statement on Wednesday while receiving a delegation from the Alumni Association of the Seventh Regular Course of the Nigeria Naval College at the Government House in Umuahia.
The delegation was led by Commodore A.O. Bamidele (Rtd), who visited the governor ahead of the association’s planned 40th anniversary reunion in Abia State.
“For us, security is a top priority. Without security, every other thing collapses,” Otti said.
The governor thanked the association for choosing Abia as the venue for its reunion, describing the decision as a vote of confidence in the transformation taking place across the state.
“I want to thank you for choosing Abia as the venue for your 40th anniversary reunion. We are very pleased to receive you and will do everything within our capacity to support your programme,” he stated.
Otti also directed his Special Adviser on Security, Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah (Rtd), an alumnus of the same course, to work closely with the association to ensure a successful event.
The governor noted that the progress made in Abia under his administration was only the beginning, promising continued efforts to improve the welfare of residents.
“Thank you for noticing the modest changes we are making in the State. I can assure you that it is still early days. We remain committed to doing more for the good of the people of Abia State,” he said.
He further emphasised that appointments in his administration are based on merit, citing the appointment of Commander MacDonald Ubah as Special Adviser on Security.
“Without even knowing that he was your course mate, we appointed Commander McDonald Uba strictly based on merit. We recognised his pedigree and competence,” Otti affirmed.
Earlier, Commodore A.O. Bamidele praised the governor’s leadership and the visible transformation in Abia, especially in Umuahia.
“When I entered Umuahia yesterday, I saw a new heaven, a totally different place. Something is clearly working here, and we want to be part of it,” he said.
Bamidele also commended the administration’s security initiatives and expressed appreciation for the appointment of Commander Ubah.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, and other senior government officials.
