The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has pledged continued government support for businesses following a fire incident at a facility linked to Nigerian Breweries Plc in Aba.

The governor made the remarks during an unscheduled visit to the site on Friday to assess damage caused by the inferno, which occurred on Thursday at an open space leased from the Nigerian Railway Corporation.

He commended the swift response of the Abia State Fire Service, noting that their intervention helped prevent the fire from spreading and causing more severe damage.

According to officials, the fire broke out around 3:20 p.m. and was fully contained before 6:00 p.m., affecting only empty crates with no casualties recorded.

Alex Otti said the incident underscored the need for continuous emergency preparedness, stressing that even unlikely locations could experience unexpected fire outbreaks.

He assured investors that his administration remains committed to providing an enabling environment for businesses to operate and thrive in the state.

Representatives of Nigerian Breweries Plc confirmed that emergency protocols were activated immediately the fire was detected, with both internal teams and the state fire service working together to contain it.

The company added that assessment of the full extent of the damage was still ongoing, but confirmed that the affected area was not part of the main brewing plant.

Government officials, including the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and local government chairmen, accompanied the governor during the inspection visit.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
