OUTRAGE IN TURKEY AS MOSQUE LISTED ONLINE AS “VICTOR OSIMHEN MOSQUE”
Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has unexpectedly been caught up in a controversy in Turkey after the Bulut Mosque in Konya was mistakenly listed on Google Maps as the “Victor Osimhen Mosque.”
The unusual renaming sparked outrage among worshippers, who described it as disrespectful.
One community member, Zeki Yaylacı, expressed strong disapproval:
“It’s a shame to name a non-Muslim and make a mockery of it. We consider it an insult to Muslims, the mosque community, and mosques themselves.”
The incident appears to have been caused by incorrect user edits on Google Maps, and there is no evidence that Osimhen had any involvement.
The Nigerian forward, who recently joined Galatasaray from Napoli, was absent from the team’s 3-0 win over Gaziantep on Saturday as he continues to work on regaining full fitness. Coach Okan Buruk confirmed that Osimhen will be ready to feature against Karagumruk on Friday.
While the mosque renaming was likely a prank or error, it has stirred strong emotions in Konya, highlighting the sensitivity surrounding religious institutions in Turkey.
