In a major push for digital transformation in Nigeria’s maritime sector, the Federal Government has officially launched the NIMASA Maritime Labour E-Platform, designed to streamline labour administration and boost transparency in the industry.

The launch took place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as part of the 2025 International Day of the Seafarer celebration and was led by Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

A Game Changer for Maritime Labour

Oyetola described the platform as a “bold step” towards modernising how labour issues are managed in the maritime industry. Developed by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the platform will offer real-time data access, improve regulatory compliance, and centralize key information related to maritime workers and operations.

“This E-Platform will provide real-time data access, enhance regulatory compliance, and serve as a centralized system for maritime labour administration,” Oyetola stated.

Boosting Efficiency and Accountability

The new platform is expected to simplify processes, reduce red tape, and increase accountability within Nigeria’s growing blue economy. It’s part of the ministry’s broader strategy to promote ease of doing business, attract global partners, and improve the welfare of maritime workers.

“I urge all maritime stakeholders to take full advantage of the platform’s capabilities,” Oyetola said.
“It has the potential to drive sector-wide innovation, boost accountability, and significantly improve service delivery.”

Seafarers Honoured on Their Day

The launch coincided with global events marking the International Day of the Seafarer, which celebrates the vital role maritime professionals play in global trade and economic development.

By launching the platform on this symbolic day, the government has shown a renewed commitment to supporting the workforce behind Nigeria’s maritime strength.

Takeaway:
With the Maritime Labour E-Platform, Nigeria is embracing digital solutions to strengthen its maritime sector—making operations smoother, fairer, and more transparent for all.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
