Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adelabu made the declaration on Tuesday during a gathering held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Oke Ado, Ibadan.

The event attracted several APC leaders and supporters, including Kunle Sanda, Isiaka Alimi, and Wale Sanusi, among others.

Adelabu Promises Better Governance for Oyo

Speaking at the event, Adelabu said his decision to rejoin the governorship race was driven by his belief that Oyo State deserves improved governance, economic growth, and greater dividends of democracy.

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria said his ambition is aimed at building a more secure and economically advanced state.

“Firstly, I want to thank Almighty Allah. We started this journey in 2019 and I believe 2027 will be our own time,” he said.

“This declaration message goes beyond declaration. It is the summary of Adebayo Adelabu’s manifesto. Today is a day to reclaim Oyo State to genuine progress.”

Praises Tinubu, APC Leadership

Adelabu also expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.

He thanked APC leaders and supporters for their continued backing while reaffirming his loyalty to the party ahead of the 2027 election.

“I stand before you with humility to declare my intention to contest for the gubernatorial election on the platform of our great party, APC, in 2027,” he stated.

‘Oyo Deserves More’ — Adelabu

The former minister insisted that his experience in public service and the financial sector positions him to transform Oyo State if elected governor.

According to him, governance must go beyond political rhetoric and produce visible impact at the grassroots level.

“Why am I contesting again? It is because I believe Oyo State deserves more,” he said.

“Oyo State deserves security and stability because governance goes beyond rhetoric.”

Adelabu added that he possesses the experience and exposure required to drive economic development and improve living conditions across the state.

“I am contesting because I know that I have the experience and exposure to build a greater Oyo State that is economically advanced. Good governance must be felt at the grassroots,” he added.
