The Oyo State Fire Service has confirmed the recovery of the body of a 65-year-old man who tragically fell into a deep well at Oke-Oga Atipe, Idi-Aga area of Ibadan.

The incident was detailed in a statement released on Thursday by Moroof Akinwande, Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Service Agency.

According to Akinwande, the agency received a distress call at 9:42 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from a resident identified as Mr. Damola, who reported that a man had fallen into a well at the location.

He explained that firefighters, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Bamidele Samsudeen, were immediately deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the response team discovered that the victim, believed to be around 65 years old, had already passed away. His body was recovered from the well and handed over to policemen from the Agugu Police Division, led by SP Idowu.

Describing the incident as unfortunate, Akinwande urged residents to remain alert and prioritize safety, especially around wells, open spaces, and hazardous areas at home.

He also emphasized the need for the public to pay attention to mental health and seek help during emotional distress. Additionally, he reminded residents of the importance of fire safety, particularly during the dry season, encouraging households and public buildings to install fire extinguishers and follow safety protocols.

The incident comes barely a month after a similar tragedy in November, when the body of a 45-year-old man was recovered from a well in the Odo-Ogbo, Oja-Agbe area of Iseyin, highlighting the need for stronger community safety awareness.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
