The Oyo State Government has announced the disbursement of N60 million monthly to pensioners as part of efforts to clear outstanding pension arrears.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Dotun Oyelade, on behalf of the Chairman of the Oyo State Pension Board, Mr. Tunji Adekunle.

According to the statement, a total of 22,212 pensioners are currently on the payroll of the Oyo State Pension Board as of April 2025.

Mr. Adekunle stated that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration remains committed to the welfare and financial security of retirees in the state. He noted that pension payments have been disbursed consistently on or before the 25th of every month since the beginning of the administration.

“In a bid to clear outstanding arrears, a sum of N60 million is being paid to the state pensioners monthly,” the statement read.

The Chairman also highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure newly retired workers are swiftly enrolled in the pension scheme. “Since the beginning of this year alone, the board has enrolled 142 pensioners in January, 175 in February, 171 in March, and 143 in April,” he disclosed.

He praised Governor Makinde’s dedication to improving the welfare of senior citizens, describing it as “unprecedented” and “consistent with the administration’s pro-people policies.”

The government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all outstanding pension entitlements are cleared in due course, urging pensioners to remain patient and assured of continued transparency and accountability in the process.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
