The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has stated that his successor in 2027 will be chosen based on competence and loyalty to the people of the state.

He made the remarks during the 12th edition of the ‘Omituntun’ Annual Ramadan Public Lecture, held at the Ibadan North Local Government Motor Park, Agodi Gate, Ibadan.

Makinde said: “I have spoken with several of my colleagues, and they shared experiences of leaders who, once in office, acted contrary to expectations. I asked how they selected and supported them, only to see them change after assuming office.

“The usual practice has been to appoint someone expected to be loyal to the outgoing leader. Today, I have decided that whoever becomes my successor will be chosen based on their ability and dedication to Oyo State, not to Seyi Makinde.

“Going forward, we must avoid a return to political violence, regardless of party affiliation. I urge everyone to pray that the next governor will remain loyal to the state.”
