OYO SUSPENDS EXCURSIONS, INTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES OVER INSECURITY
The Oyo State Government has suspended all school excursions, field trips, sports competitions, and other activities outside school premises across the state following rising security concerns.
The directive was issued by the Oyo State Ministry of Education in a circular dated May 22, 2026, and signed by the Permanent Secretary, B.T. Oyinloye.
According to the circular, the suspension takes immediate effect and overrides all previously approved external school activities.
It stated that the decision was taken “in view of the recent security concerns,” following last week’s coordinated abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
“All School Administrators are hereby directed to suspend all excursions, field trips, sports competitions, and any other activities that require moving students outside school premises until further notice,” the circular read.
The government emphasized that the safety of students and staff is non-negotiable, directing school authorities to ensure strict compliance and keep learners within school premises during school hours.
It also instructed school heads to report any suspicious activity around schools to the relevant security agencies immediately.
The circular was distributed to TESCOM, SUBEB, Tutor-Generals, Zonal Directors, Local Inspectors of Education, principals, and head teachers across the state.
The directive comes amid growing concern among parents and residents over the safety of students in schools across Oyo State following the recent deadly abduction incident.
