OYO TRAFFIC AGENCY TRAINS STAFF TO ASSIST IN ROADSIDE CRIME PREVENTION
The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority has begun training its personnel to support efforts in combating crime along major roads across the state.
The initiative is aimed at equipping traffic officers with additional skills to identify suspicious activities, respond appropriately to security threats, and collaborate more effectively with law enforcement agencies during emergencies.
Officials of the agency said the training is part of a broader strategy to improve public safety on highways and urban roads, where cases of robbery, harassment, and other criminal activities have been reported in recent times.
Participants are being taught basic security awareness, communication protocols, and procedures for reporting incidents to relevant security agencies, including the police and civil defence corps.
Authorities explained that while traffic officers are not replacing security operatives, their presence on the roads places them in a strategic position to provide early warnings and assist in preventing crimes.
The agency urged motorists and residents to cooperate with traffic officials and report any suspicious behavior encountered on the roads.
As the programme continues, the government says it remains committed to improving road safety and strengthening collaboration between transport and security agencies in the state.
