There was panic on Lagos Island after a fire broke out at a branch of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), forcing staff to jump from the storey building to safety.

Videos circulating online showed some of the bank’s employees climbing through windows in a desperate attempt to escape the flames. Onlookers could be heard screaming as the workers tried to make their way down from the building.

As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders had not yet released an official statement regarding the cause of the fire or the extent of damage.

The incident has since sparked conversations on social media, with many Nigerians expressing concern over safety measures in workplaces and the need for better fire emergency systems.

More updates are expected as authorities assess the situation.
