Security operatives in Kaduna State have arrested a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agent, identified as Shehu Aliyu Patangi, with over ₦25.9 million in cash, allegedly meant for vote-buying during Saturday’s by-elections.

The arrest took place around 3:30 a.m. at a hotel along Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis. The operation was carried out jointly by the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies.

According to Kaduna Police Command spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, the total sum of ₦25,963,000 was recovered from the suspect. Investigations revealed that the money was intended to influence voters in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency poll.

During interrogation, Patangi reportedly confessed that the funds were meant for voter inducement and pleaded for leniency.

Kaduna Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, praised the synergy among security agencies and issued a stern warning:

“Anyone caught attempting to compromise the election will be prosecuted, regardless of their political affiliation.”

The arrest has further heightened discussions on the fight against electoral malpractice in Nigeria, especially as security agencies continue to clamp down on vote-buying across the country.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
