PDP CRISIS WILL SOON END, SAYS S’WEST CHAIR
The South-West Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kamorudeen Ajisafe, has expressed optimism that the party’s internal crisis will soon be resolved, insisting that the opposition party remains strong ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ajisafe said on Tuesday that the PDP is already working to reposition itself to win more states and National Assembly seats across the country, particularly in the South-West region.
He said, despite ongoing factional disputes at the national level, the party remains confident of a political rebound.
The PDP has been engulfed in internal divisions since the 2023 general elections, with rival blocs emerging within its leadership structure. The crisis has largely centred around competing interests led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and another bloc involving figures such as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.
The disputes have resulted in parallel party structures and separate claims to legitimacy within the National Working Committee.
Ajisafe, however, said efforts are ongoing to reconcile stakeholders and stabilise the party, adding that the PDP would emerge stronger once the crisis is resolved.
He expressed confidence that the party would perform strongly in the 2027 elections, citing what he described as its grassroots presence and the performance of PDP governors in key states.
He particularly praised Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration in Oyo State, describing it as impactful and widely accepted by the people.
According to him, the PDP remains well-positioned in states like Ekiti and Oyo, and will retain and possibly expand its political influence in the region.
Ajisafe added that the party’s structures remain active nationwide and insisted that predictions of its decline are misplaced, saying the PDP will “shock critics” in 2027 with strong electoral performance.
