PDP HAILS COURT JUDGMENT AFFIRMING JONATHAN’S ELIGIBILITY FOR 2027 PRESIDENCY — TURAKI FACTION
The Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the Federal High Court judgment in Abuja affirming the eligibility of former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.
The faction described the ruling as consistent with constitutional provisions and established legal principles, saying it reinforces clarity on Jonathan’s political status ahead of the 2027 polls.
It said the judgment confirms that Jonathan remains qualified to seek the office of President, despite arguments challenging his previous tenures in office.
According to the party, the court’s decision reflects the principle that laws cannot operate retroactively, adding that attempts to disqualify the former president amounted to “unnecessary legal distraction.”
The PDP faction also criticised the suit challenging Jonathan’s eligibility, describing it as “vexatious” and an abuse of court process.
It further commended the court for awarding costs against the plaintiff, saying it would discourage frivolous political litigation and strengthen democratic stability.
The party noted that the ruling, combined with Jonathan’s screening waiver earlier granted by the faction, has cleared the path for his participation in its presidential primary scheduled for May 28, 2026.
