PDP MAINTAINS STRONGHOLD IN TARABA, SAYS PARTY CHAIRMAN, AMID DEFECTION PALAVA
The Taraba State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied rumors that Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas intends to leave the party. It emphasized that the state continues to be a stronghold for the PDP in Northern Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Taraba State PDP Chairman Alhaji Abubakar Bawa reaffirmed the party’s firm grip in the state and rejected claims of any internal discord.
“Taraba State is the stronghold of PDP in Northern Nigeria,” Bawa asserted. “While other states in Northern Nigeria have explored opposition parties, Taraba has remained a steadfast PDP bastion.”
Bawa attributed the state’s continued political loyalty to the PDP’s steadfast principles and the achievements of its leaders since the return of democracy in 1999.
“The party’s commitment to its ideals and principles has resonated with the people of Taraba, who have consistently returned PDP leaders to power,” he said.
He described Governor Agbu Kefas’ leadership as a “significant milestone in the party’s history,” pointing out that the governor’s rise from a former state PDP chairman to the governorship underscores the PDP’s internal strength and capacity to produce tested leaders.
Commending Governor Kefas for his policies and leadership style, Bawa stated: “His unwavering dedication to party values and the welfare of Tarabans is clear through people-focused initiatives like the swift implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage and its recent increase to N70,000.”
The chairman also pointed to Kefas’ effort in settling a 10-month salary arrears owed to staff at the PDP state secretariat, saying, “This reflects his commitment to party loyalists and those who have worked diligently to advance the party’s cause.”
Bawa further praised the governor’s comprehensive education reforms, noting that they have received widespread acclaim and are helping to strengthen ongoing support for the PDP throughout the state.
He concluded with a firm rebuttal of ongoing political speculations: “Taraba State’s loyalty to the PDP is a clear indication of the party’s effective governance. As the only state in Northern Nigeria that has never tested opposition, Taraba remains a PDP stronghold.”
