PDP MAY STOP EXISTING BEFORE 2027 — SUSWAM.
Senator Gabriel Suswam, former Governor of Benue State, has cautioned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may disintegrate before the 2027 elections if its leaders fail to address the party's ongoing issues.
Currently, the PDP is embroiled in a dispute over the position of national secretary. Additionally, the party recently faced a significant wave of defections, with Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his predecessor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and other former leaders and members joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a pivotal moment in the state's political landscape.
During an appearance on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Tuesday, Suswam expressed that the PDP is in a critical state, urging that immediate action is needed to prevent further deterioration.
He explained that many members have lost faith in the party, fearing it may not survive. Suswam added that the efforts of PDP governors and former governors, spearheaded by ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki, could potentially help salvage the party.
He said, “Whether there is light at the end of the tunnel in the efforts made by Senator Saraki will be seen in the next two weeks. For now, I would say that PDP is it in the hospital? Yes. Is it in the ICU to some extent? Yes, it is. Can it be rescued? Yes, if the proper medicine is applied.”
He added that comparing the PDP to a patient in the Intensive Care Unit means its survival chances are 50-50. If Saraki’s team fails, he warned, the party may not survive.
