The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that the party’s National Convention will hold on March 28 and 29, 2026, in Abuja.

The decision was taken on Monday during the party’s 105th NEC meeting in the capital.

In a statement jointly signed by Abdulrahman Muhammed, National Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee, and Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary, the NEC said the resolutions followed extensive discussions on the party’s current state, the political landscape, recent judicial developments, and preparations for upcoming internal processes.

The NEC unanimously reconfirmed, ratified, and reaffirmed all resolutions of the Emergency 104th NEC meeting held on December 7, 2025, noting that actions taken under those resolutions remain binding, lawful, and fully in force.

Emphasizing its commitment to the rule of law and judicial independence as central to democratic governance, the NEC welcomed the Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan upholding the legality of the party’s leadership and administrative arrangements. The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the duly constituted National Caretaker Committee of the PDP.

The committee approved March 28 and 29, 2026, for the National Convention, during which members of the National Working Committee and other statutory organs will be elected.

Additionally, the NEC extended the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee, along with affected state and zonal caretaker committees, pending the convention and subsequent state and zonal congresses.

The NEC has tasked the National Caretaker Committee with immediately activating convention sub-committees and beginning full logistical, administrative, and consultative preparations to ensure a transparent, inclusive, and credible convention.

Calling for unity, discipline, and loyalty, the NEC urged party members at all levels to prioritize collective interests and avoid actions that could undermine party cohesion.

Reiterating its commitment to building a strong, disciplined, democratic, and electorally competitive party, the NEC expressed confidence that the resolutions of the 105th meeting would strengthen internal democracy, restore stability, and position the PDP for future electoral success. Party members and supporters, both at home and abroad, were encouraged to remain steadfast, law-abiding, and committed to the party’s ideals.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
