PDP URGES PETER OBI TO REUNITE WITH PARTY BEFORE 2027
The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on former Anambra Governor and Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, to return to the party.
Obi left the PDP ahead of the 2023 presidential election, citing concerns over his chances of achieving his political aspirations within the party.
The PDP's appeal came after an expanded meeting of its State Executive Committee (SEC) held in Awka on Thursday. The meeting was convened to assess the state of the party and discuss future strategies.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting and signed by the party's State Chairman, Chidi Chidebe, the PDP warned that forming coalitions with politically and ideologically mismatched groups was unlikely to bring meaningful success.
“The committee extends a warm and open invitation to all former and aggrieved members of the PDP in Anambra, especially our respected former governor, Mr Peter Obi, to return and reconnect with the now revitalized and restructured PDP,” the statement read.
“We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to work together in our shared mission of building a better Nigeria,” Chidebe added.
He also urged voters in Anambra to support the party’s candidates, Mr. Jude Ezenwafor and his running mate Mr. Francis Okeke, in the upcoming elections. Chidebe called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a fair, transparent, and credible electoral process.
Additionally, the PDP announced the unanimous selection of Chief Clems Ezike to fill the vacant position of National Ex-Officio representing Anambra. Chidebe appealed to the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee, led by Chief Ali Odefa, to recognize the appointment and forward it to the party’s national leadership.
