Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has identified ex-President Goodluck Jonathan as the most viable presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during Friday’s edition of Politics Today on Channels Television, Lamido urged the PDP to actively work towards bringing Jonathan back into the fold.

“For the PDP, he’s their best option. I believe Nigerians will rally behind any candidate the PDP presents, but Jonathan stands out,” Lamido said.

He stressed that Jonathan’s prior experience as president gives him a unique edge in governance, noting that no current PDP figure from the South matches his political credentials.

Lamido’s comments come amid ongoing speculation about Jonathan’s potential return to the PDP to contest the 2027 presidency.

While the party has publicly denied offering Jonathan its presidential ticket or making moves to lure him back, sources within the PDP suggest discreet efforts are underway to convince the former leader to run, positioning him as a formidable opponent to President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming election.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
