PERU CLINIC FINED $190,000 FOR LEAKING SHAKIRA’S CONFIDENTIAL MEDICAL INFO
A private clinic in Peru has been fined $190,000 for breaching the medical privacy of Colombian pop icon Shakira, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in February when the 48-year-old singer was hospitalized at the Delgado Auna clinic in Lima due to an abdominal issue, forcing her to cancel a major performance in the city. Just two days later, she returned to the stage to continue her world tour, Las mujeres ya no lloran ("Women Don’t Cry Anymore").
However, following her brief hospitalization, details from her confidential medical report surfaced on social media, sparking public outrage and prompting an official investigation by Peruvian health regulators.
In response to the leak, Delgado Auna released a statement condemning the violation, calling it a “serious ethical breach” and vowing to investigate how personal data had been mishandled.
Shakira, a four-time Grammy Award winner, is currently on her first global tour in seven years.
