PETAN RALLIES $6B INVESTMENT TO RAISE OIL OUTPUT TO 3M BARRELS
The Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) is rallying $6 billion in investment to support efforts to increase Nigeria’s crude oil production to three million barrels per day, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s oil and gas industry.
The initiative underscores the importance of attracting fresh capital into the sector to improve production capacity, expand infrastructure and maximise the value of Nigeria’s petroleum resources.
Achieving the targeted production level would require sustained investment in exploration, drilling, field development, maintenance and the deployment of modern oilfield technologies. Improved infrastructure and more efficient operations would also be critical to reducing production losses and bringing additional capacity online.
PETAN’s investment drive highlights the role of indigenous oilfield service companies in supporting Nigeria’s energy ambitions. Local companies provide technical expertise, equipment and services that are essential to exploration and production activities across the industry.
Increased crude oil production could strengthen government revenue, improve foreign exchange earnings and support economic growth. The sector also has the potential to generate employment and create opportunities for Nigerian businesses involved in engineering, logistics, manufacturing and other oil-related services.
However, reaching the three-million-barrel-per-day target will depend on several factors, including investor confidence, security in oil-producing areas, operational efficiency and the timely execution of planned projects.
Industry stakeholders have continued to emphasise the need for policies that encourage investment, improve the operating environment and strengthen collaboration between local companies and international partners.
The proposed $6 billion investment drive therefore represents an important step towards expanding Nigeria’s production capacity, although the extent of its impact will depend on how quickly the funding is secured and deployed to productive projects.
