Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The announcement was made in Enugu on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, explained that his move is part of a broader plan to “transform and rescue Nigeria” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” Obi stated. “We will resist rigging of election by every lawful means in 2027,” he added.
