PETER OBI CONDEMNS SCHOOL ATTACKS, SAYS CHILDREN HAVE BECOME ‘PAWNS IN RANSOM ECONOMY’

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has condemned the growing attacks on schools across Nigeria, warning that children are increasingly becoming victims of what he described as a “ransom economy.”

Obi reacted to recent incidents involving attacks on schools and the abduction of students, describing the situation as heartbreaking and unacceptable.

According to him, the continued targeting of schools and young children reflects the worsening insecurity across the country and the failure to adequately protect vulnerable citizens.

He said it was disturbing that children who should be focused on learning and building their future are now being exposed to violence, fear, and criminal activities.

Obi also stressed that education cannot thrive in an atmosphere where parents and students constantly live in fear of kidnappings and attacks.

The former Anambra State governor urged the government and security agencies to take urgent and decisive steps to secure schools and restore confidence in the country’s education system.

He further called for stronger investment in security, intelligence gathering, and community protection to prevent future attacks and safeguard children across the country.

His comments come amid rising concerns over renewed attacks on schools and communities in parts of northern Nigeria.
