Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi on Thursday arrived in Bauchi State for a private meeting with Governor Bala Mohammed.

The meeting, which took place behind closed doors at the Presidential Lounge of the Government House in Bauchi, immediately sparked political interest as the purpose of the visit was not officially disclosed at the time of reporting.

Sources within the Government House suggested that the discussion may be connected to recent political developments and possible alliances ahead of future elections.

Both Peter Obi and Governor Bala Mohammed were expected to address journalists after the meeting.

Governor Bala Mohammed currently serves as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and remains one of the key political figures in the country.

The meeting comes at a time of growing speculation over political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Earlier in March, Governor Mohammed had publicly stated that his preferred destination for defection was the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while hosting party leaders led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

However, shortly after that statement, he also hosted the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, raising fresh questions about his political direction.

Peter Obi, who was one of the leading candidates in the 2023 presidential election, has remained an influential figure in opposition politics and continues to attract attention regarding possible future alliances.

The outcome of the closed-door meeting is expected to generate further interest as political activities gradually build toward the next election cycle.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
