PETER OBI VISITS KWANKWASO AFTER PRESIDENTIAL SCREENING, CLEARANCE
Former Peter Obi paid a courtesy visit to former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Tuesday night in Abuja.
The meeting came shortly after the screening committee of the Nigerian Democratic Congress cleared Obi for the party’s presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso confirmed the visit in a post shared on his X handle on Wednesday.
According to him, the meeting took place at his Maitama residence in Abuja.
“Last night, I received a courtesy visit from my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, shortly after his successful screening as the presidential aspirant of our party, the NDC. The future is bright and full of promise,” Kwankwaso wrote.
The visit comes days after Obi and Kwankwaso officially joined the NDC in early May 2026 following their exit from the African Democratic Congress.
Their move has sparked speculation about possible political collaboration ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with reports suggesting the two politicians may eventually run on a joint ticket.
On Tuesday, the NDC screening committee reportedly cleared Obi unopposed after he emerged as the only aspirant to purchase the party’s presidential nomination form.
Obi and Kwankwaso, who contested the 2023 presidential election on separate platforms, have recently intensified consultations aimed at strengthening opposition alliances against the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Photographs from the meeting showed both leaders seated together in a relaxed atmosphere while engaged in discussions.
