The Plateau State Government has unveiled plans to create up to 50,000 digital jobs as part of a new strategy to boost employment and position the state as a hub for outsourcing services.

This initiative follows a strategic partnership with Outsource Global, aimed at strengthening workforce development and driving digital inclusion across the state.

During a meeting in Jos, Governor Caleb Mutfwang said the programme is designed to align with long-term economic growth goals, with a strong focus on skills development rather than just formal qualifications.

According to officials, the initiative has already attracted significant interest, with about 6,000 applications received within the first week of recruitment. Organisers say the programme will serve as a pathway for participants to access both local and international job opportunities.

The project is expected to scale gradually, with at least 2,000 participants projected to secure international placements, while others will take up roles in Nigeria’s growing outsourcing sector.

A six-month internship model will also be introduced to improve employability and ensure that at least half of the participants remain actively engaged in work after training.

Governor Mutfwang emphasised that the initiative is inclusive, noting that people from different backgrounds, including those working from home, can benefit from the opportunities created.

To support the rollout, the state has partnered with MTN Nigeria to utilise its Bukuru facility, which can accommodate up to 1,600 workers across multiple shifts.

Authorities believe the programme will not only tackle unemployment but also stimulate broader economic growth, creating ripple effects across sectors such as housing, technology, and support services.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
