The Plateau State Government says it has recovered over 60 public properties, including buildings, construction equipment, and vehicles, in an ongoing effort to reclaim government assets allegedly diverted or illegally occupied across the state.

Chairman of the Taskforce on Recovery of Government Properties, retired General Nash Yakubu, disclosed this while presenting an interim report to the Chief of Staff to the Plateau State Government, Jerry Satmak, in Jos.

An aide to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Precious Yohanna, also confirmed the development on Wednesday.

He said the task force had so far recovered more than sixty properties, including buildings, while additional recoveries were still ongoing.

During the presentation, Yakubu said the committee, which has operated for more than one year, had made significant progress in retrieving public assets.

“We have recovered over 60 buildings, in addition to construction equipment and vehicles.

“Items that could not be transported to Jos were secured at various Local Government headquarters, while those recovered within the Jos metropolis have been moved to a central holding facility.

“Although this report captures our progress so far, the exercise is still ongoing. Even as we conclude this presentation, we are proceeding with further recoveries,” he said.

Yakubu added that the more properties recovered, the more hidden assets were being discovered.

He commended Plateau residents for cooperating with the task force and providing useful information.

According to him, the committee adopted the principle of “See something, say something” to encourage citizens to report suspected government assets that were diverted or concealed.

He said dedicated telephone lines and an official email address were created to enhance public participation, while regular television briefings were also used to receive tips.

Receiving the report on behalf of the state government, Chief of Staff Jerry Satmak praised the task force for its diligence, commitment, and performance.

He assured the committee of continued government support to enable it to complete its assignment successfully.

Satmak also reaffirmed the administration’s determination to recover all government properties and ensure they are properly used for the benefit of the people of Plateau State.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
