POLICE ARREST 17 SUSPECTED CULTISTS, RECOVER CANNABIS IN ANAMBRA RAIDS
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested 17 suspected cultists during raids conducted in different parts of the state.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of Friday, also led to the recovery of a large quantity of cannabis and other dangerous weapons.
According to police sources, the suspects, mostly young men aged between 18 and 35, are believed to be members of various cult groups terrorising communities in the state. They were arrested in locations including Awka, Onitsha, and Nnewi areas.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved in the operation and warned that the command will continue to crack down on cultism and drug-related crimes. He stated that the arrested suspects will be charged to court once investigations are completed.
Cultism has remained a serious security issue in Anambra State, often resulting in violent clashes and loss of lives, especially among young people. Many residents have expressed relief over the latest arrests and called for more sustained efforts to rid the state of cult groups.
The police have appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that can help them tackle cultism and other criminal activities in the state. They assured citizens of their commitment to ensuring safety and peace across Anambra.
