The Niger State Police Command has arrested 30 suspects linked to drug offences, possession of dangerous weapons, thuggery, and armed robbery during recent crackdowns across the state.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, eight suspects were first picked up in the Gulu area of Lapai Local Government following intelligence reports. They were caught with suspected cannabis, cannabis seeds, alcoholic drinks, tobacco, amulets, and weapons like machetes, knives, sickles, and clubs. The police say they will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile, 22 others were nabbed in Tunga, Minna, after disturbances broke out on June 29 around the Kafintella-Samande axis. Reports say rival groups clashed over illegal mining activities. A swift intervention by the Divisional Police Officer of Tudun-Wada led to the arrest of one Salisu Kabiru, who later identified more people involved in the fracas.

Further raids on July 5 and 6 helped the police track down more suspects. Recovered items included four motorcycles, various cutlasses and knives, along with quantities of cannabis and other illegal substances.

All suspects remain in custody while investigations continue. The Niger State Police Command has assured residents that anyone found guilty will face the full weight of the law. They also urged the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security efforts to keep communities safe.
