POLICE ARREST FOUR SUSPECTS OVER HAJJ SEAT SCAM IN KEBBI
The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested four suspects over an alleged Hajj seat scam involving millions of naira and the distribution of fake pilgrimage materials.
The Command said the prime suspect, Aminu Zauro, was arrested alongside Tabiu Abubakar, Usman Attahiru, and Mustapha Sani Zauro, while other suspects, including Bello Jos, Atiku Store, Umar Gimba, and Usman Bunza, are currently at large.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, the arrest followed a complaint from the Kebbi State Pilgrims Welfare Agency after some intending pilgrims discovered their names were missing from the official Hajj register.
The statement revealed that the suspect allegedly collected ₦8.6 million from a victim under the false promise of securing two seats for the 2026 Hajj exercise.
It added that an additional ₦690,000 was also obtained from another victim using similar fraudulent claims.
The police further disclosed that fake Hajj materials, including bags, hijabs, wrappers, and medical record cards, were recovered from the suspects as part of efforts to cover up the scam.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, Umar M. Hadejia, warned intending pilgrims to deal only with authorised officials of the State Pilgrims Welfare Agency to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.
He added that all suspects found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
