POLICE ARREST MAN WITH 339 WRAPS OF SUSPECTED INDIAN HEMP IN KOGI
The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 52-year-old man allegedly found with 339 wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in Kabba, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, disclosed this during a press conference held at the command headquarters in Lokoja on Tuesday.
According to the police commissioner, the arrest was carried out on May 9, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. through intelligence-led policing and routine stop-and-search operations.
“On the 9th of May, 2026, at about 1400hrs, operatives of the Area Command, Kabba, while on routine stop-and-search duty, intercepted a Honda Pilot Jeep with registration number LSD 456 GE.
“The vehicle was driven by one Chris Amos ‘m’, aged 52 years, while one Bilat Joseph ‘m’ was seated as the passenger,” Kankarofi said.
He explained that after a thorough search of the vehicle, officers allegedly discovered 339 wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp concealed inside the vehicle.
“Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, the operatives discovered Three Hundred and thirty-nine (339) wraps of substances reasonably suspected to be Indian Hemp concealed inside the vehicle,” he added.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspects allegedly collected the consignment from Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State on the instructions of an individual identified only as “Alhaji,” whose identity and whereabouts are still unknown.
“The suspects further stated that the illicit substance was to be delivered in Yola, Adamawa State,” the police commissioner said.
Kankarofi stated that the suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of the alleged criminal network.
He noted that the recovered exhibits had been secured and assured that all suspects connected to the case would face prosecution after investigations were completed.
The police commissioner also described illicit drug trafficking as one of the major drivers of violent crime and insecurity in society.
“The Kogi State Police Command wishes to reiterate that illicit drug trafficking remains one of the major factors fueling violent crimes and criminality within society.
“Consequently, the Command will continue to sustain aggressive operations targeted at dismantling criminal syndicates and preventing the movement of illicit substances through the State,” he stated.
Kankarofi further appreciated the support of the Nigeria Police Force leadership, the Kogi State Government, and residents of the state for their cooperation with security agencies.
