The Kano State Police Command has arrested a notorious drug dealer and five suspected thugs during an operation at Jaoji Quarters in the Kano metropolis.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna. He said the operation was carried out by police officers attached to the Jaoji Police Division as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the state.
According to Haruna, the suspect identified as Hafizu Ali, aged 25, of Jaoji Quarters, was arrested alongside five suspected thugs. He noted that various illicit drugs and dangerous weapons were recovered during the operation.
“The Kano State Police Command has made another significant breakthrough in its efforts to combat drug trafficking and other related crimes in the state,” Haruna said. “A suspected drug dealer and five suspected thugs were arrested, and several illicit substances and weapons were recovered.”
He explained that the operation was conducted on January 10 under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, in line with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s directive to all commands to strengthen strategic crime prevention measures aimed at dismantling criminal networks and ensuring public safety.
Haruna disclosed that the suspected drug dealer was found in possession of 2,070 suspected Pregabalin capsules and 23 parcels of suspected Cannabis Sativa. Items recovered from the suspected thugs included four knives, two scissors, and an axe.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved in the operation for their dedication and commitment, while also appreciating the residents of the state for their continued support and cooperation with the police.
Haruna added that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Jigawa State Police Command had earlier announced the arrest of 10 suspects in a series of coordinated operations targeting armed robbery, drug trafficking, and other criminal activities across the state.
