POLICE ARREST TEENAGE DRIVER WITH ILLICIT DRUGS AFTER KNOCKING DOWN THREE OFFICERS
A 19-year-old driver, Nsikak Okon, has been arrested by the police after allegedly driving recklessly and knocking down three police officers in Edo State.
The incident was disclosed on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, via his official X handle, while reacting to a viral video showing the suspect’s arrest.
The video, shared on Thursday by an X user identified as #ChuksEricE, showed a luxury vehicle driver attempting to flee from security operatives in Benin City after reportedly hitting several vehicles and pedestrians before being apprehended.
Providing details, Hundeyin said the suspect was driving a fully tinted vehicle without number plates when he first encountered police officers on the road.
According to him, Okon recklessly sped past the officers and later returned, again driving at high speed and nearly knocking down one of them. Hundeyin added that the suspect came back a third time, still at high speed, and deliberately knocked down three officers.
He said two of the injured officers have since been treated and discharged from the hospital, while one officer is still receiving medical care for injuries sustained in the incident.
Hundeyin further disclosed that the suspect continued his reckless driving spree by damaging other vehicles before he was eventually intercepted and arrested by the police.
A search of the vehicle after his arrest reportedly led to the recovery of substances suspected to be hard drugs.
The police spokesperson questioned the suspect’s actions, noting the seriousness of the offences, which include reckless driving, assault on police officers, and possession of illicit substances.
