POLICE ARREST TIKTOKER PELLER OVER RECKLESS DRIVING AFTER VIRAL CRASH
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral video that showed him driving recklessly and crashing his vehicle during a live-stream.
The arrest came after widespread public outrage over the incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025. In the video that circulated across social media platforms, Peller was seen speeding dangerously before losing control of his vehicle and crashing, all while broadcasting the moment live to his followers.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the police described the act as a serious threat to public safety. According to the command, the influencer’s actions not only put his own life at risk but also endangered other road users who were innocent and unsuspecting.
The police noted that the reckless driving amounted to a deliberate disregard for traffic laws and could have resulted in fatal consequences. They added that such behaviour, especially when promoted on social media, sends the wrong message to young followers who may be tempted to imitate similar dangerous stunts for online attention.
Following his arrest, the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation. The police confirmed that Peller would be charged in court once investigations are concluded, in line with existing laws.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers and content creators. He cautioned against the use of online platforms to promote or engage in reckless, unlawful, or life-threatening activities, stressing that online popularity would not shield anyone from the law.
The police leadership reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing traffic regulations without fear or favour, warning that anyone found endangering lives on Lagos roads would face the full weight of the law regardless of their status or influence.
The incident has sparked renewed conversations among Nigerians about the growing trend of risky online stunts carried out for views, likes, and engagement. Many residents and safety advocates have called for stricter enforcement and stiffer penalties to deter similar behaviour, particularly as road traffic crashes remain a major concern in Lagos.
Authorities have continued to urge all motorists to drive responsibly, obey traffic rules and prioritise safety at all times, reminding the public that no online content is worth risking lives.
