POLICE ARREST TWO OVER 26-YEAR-OLD’S KILLING IN OYO
Police in Oyo State have arrested two suspects following the death of 26-year-old Kehinde Asimiyu after an altercation at Olodo Garage in Ibadan.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said police received a report on November 1 alleging that Asimiyu had been stabbed with a broken bottle.
One suspect, Taiwo Babarinde, allegedly inflicted the fatal injury, while Ishola Semiu was arrested over his suspected involvement in the incident.
According to police, an unidentified motorcycle rider informed Asimiyu’s family about the attack. The victim was taken to a hospital on Iwo Road, where a doctor confirmed his death.
Both suspects remain in custody, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku for further investigation.
The killing also triggered unrest around the Olodo Police Outpost. Reports of further threats prompted the deployment of additional police officers, supported by personnel from the Army, Amotekun Corps, civil defence and other security groups.
The command said the joint deployment had restored calm, with officers remaining in the area to prevent further disturbances.
Police also met local government representatives, transport operators and youth leaders to discuss ways to reduce tensions and improve communication.
Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga urged residents to remain peaceful, avoid retaliation and resolve disagreements through dialogue.
The statement did not announce charges against the suspects, whose alleged roles remain under investigation.
