POLICE ARREST TWO OVER CAR THEFT, RECOVER STOLEN VEHICLES IN NIGER
The Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspects over alleged car theft and receiving stolen vehicles, recovering two cars during separate operations in Minna and Bida.
Police also announced the arrest of six other suspects linked to vandalism, theft of electricity infrastructure, and possession of suspected stolen armoured cables.
The development was disclosed on Monday in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun.
According to police, the first operation led to the arrest of 49-year-old Abdulfatai Abdulganiyu from Kano State and 28-year-old Nura Umar from Bida.
Abdulfatai was reportedly arrested at a hotel along Mandela Road, Minna, in possession of a Honda CR-V with registration number ABJ 529 DE, believed to have been stolen from Kano.
Investigators said the suspect allegedly confessed that the vehicle was handed to him by one Musa Abdulrazak and that he brought it to Minna to look for a buyer.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Nura Umar, who was identified as a suspected buyer.
He was found with a Toyota Corolla bearing registration number MKA 461 MZ and allegedly admitted paying ₦700,000 as part payment for the car valued at ₦1.1 million.
In another operation, police in Kontagora arrested Yazidu Dalhatu for allegedly vandalising transformers and stealing transformer oil in the Tudun-Wada area.
Two other suspects, Mohammed Lawal and Umar Liman, were also linked as alleged receivers of stolen transformer components.
Separately, police intercepted a vehicle along the Kaduna–Abuja expressway carrying burnt and cut armoured cables suspected to belong to Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
Three suspects identified as Ibrahim Aminu, Isah Jafar, and Yusuf Aminu were arrested.
Recovered items included hand saws, a hammer, a chisel, and burnt armoured cables.
Police said all suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, praised officers involved in the operations and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to fighting crime across the state.
