The Nasarawa State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against crime with the arrest of two suspected armed robbers and the recovery of a stolen Toyota Corolla in Lafia, the state capital.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the suspects were arrested just hours after committing the crime, thanks to a coordinated and rapid response by officers.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday, July 12, at about 3:00 a.m., when the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division, Lafia, received a distress call about an ongoing armed robbery in Shinge by Railway Quarters.

“The robbers carted away a Toyota Corolla (Registration No. GRU 106 AE) and a Jincheng motorcycle from the victim’s residence,” the statement revealed.

Following the alert, officers swiftly swung into action and intercepted the two suspects — Basiru Lawal from Rogo LGA, Kano State, and Dahiru Mohammed from Shinge Quarters, Lafia — at Jibo Filling Station along Jos Road. The stolen Toyota Corolla was recovered in their possession.

While these two suspects are now in police custody and undergoing further investigation, the police have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down the rest of the gang and recover the missing motorcycle.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, commended the officers involved for their swift response and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

“This arrest reflects our commitment to protecting lives and property in Nasarawa State,” CP Mohammed said.

The Nasarawa Police Command has continued to intensify its efforts in cracking down on criminal elements, and this operation is seen as a strong message to those who threaten the peace and safety of the community.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
