Security agencies have launched a rescue operation for 15 passengers abducted by gunmen along the Calabar–Oron Waterway.
According to the Cross River State Police Command, coordinated search-and-rescue efforts are ongoing in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Police Command and the Nigerian Navy.
The victims were reportedly travelling in a passenger ferry from Calabar to Oron when gunmen ambushed the vessel on Friday.
Authorities said tactical teams are working to secure the safe release of the victims and arrest those responsible.
The Calabar–Oron route is an important transport link for passengers and goods, but has faced repeated cases of piracy, kidnapping, and armed attacks in recent years.
