POLICE CAUTION SOKOTO PARTIES AGAINST HATE SPEECH, VIOLENCE AHEAD OF 2027

The Sokoto State Police Command has warned political parties and their supporters against engaging in hate speech, thuggery, violence and other activities capable of threatening peace ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The command urged political actors to conduct their campaigns within the provisions of the law and avoid statements or actions that could inflame tensions among residents. It stressed the need for political parties and their candidates to promote peaceful participation throughout the electoral process.

The police also cautioned supporters of the various political parties against using youths to cause disorder or disrupt political activities. According to the command, security agencies would not tolerate acts of violence, intimidation or other forms of misconduct capable of undermining public safety.

The warning comes as political activities and preparations for the 2027 elections gradually intensify across the country. The police called on party leaders to take responsibility for the conduct of their members and supporters, while encouraging them to resolve political differences through lawful and peaceful means.

The command further appealed to residents of Sokoto State to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing useful information on activities capable of threatening peace. It reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order before, during and after the 2027 electoral process.
