POLICE CORPORAL FATALLY SHOOTS HIS GIRLFRIEND, TAKES OWN LIFE IN KOGI
The Kogi State Police Command has opened an investigation after a police corporal allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend, also a serving officer, before dying by suicide.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 9 p.m. on Friday, October 23, in Ajaokuta.
The officer, identified as Amos, was attached to the Ajaokuta division. He allegedly left his night-duty guard post and went to the quarters of his girlfriend, identified as Grace, where the shooting occurred.
A source alleged that the pair had experienced repeated disagreements, including previous threats and physical confrontations. The source also claimed that a senior officer had intervened and advised them to separate.
Those claims have not been established by the police investigation, and the circumstances leading to the deaths remain under review.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, command spokesperson Afusat Saliu said investigators were examining the case.
“We are aware of the incident, and the case is currently under investigation; we will update members of the public after the investigation is concluded,” she said.
The command has yet to release its findings or provide further details about the events preceding the shooting.
