TikTok content creator Love Dooshima has been released from police custody after spending several hours in detention over a viral video in which she reviewed a loaf of bread.

The incident followed an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force over allegations said to include cyberstalking, fraud, and mischief.

According to reports, Dooshima honoured the police invitation at about 12 pm on Monday at the Zone 7 Police Headquarters in Abuja, but was later detained.

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong disclosed that she was eventually released around 12:30 am on Tuesday after intervention from senior police authorities.

He stated that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, stepped into the matter and directed officers to secure her release.

Activists who visited the station overnight also raised concerns about her health, saying she required medication due to hypertension while in custody.

The controversy began after Dooshima posted a TikTok video questioning the safety of a loaf of bread she claimed remained fresh for nearly two months.

The video quickly went viral, sparking widespread debate online over food safety standards, preservatives, and corporate accountability.

The bakery involved, Bon Bread, reportedly filed a complaint, claiming reputational damage.

Responding earlier, the company’s founder, Maria Abdulkadir, said the bakery supports freedom of expression but insisted its bread is freshly baked and does not stay fresh for long periods without preservatives.

The case has since triggered public criticism, with many Nigerians questioning the use of police resources in what some describe as a consumer complaint or civil matter.

Legal and public reactions are expected to continue as the issue develops.
