POLICE EXTRADITE MURDER, DRUG SUSPECT TO UK
The Nigeria Police Force says it has extradited a fugitive, Matthew Chukwuemeka Adebiyi, to the United Kingdom over alleged involvement in murder and drug trafficking.
According to the Force, the extradition was carried out through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Abuja following a formal request from UK authorities in 2024.
Police spokesperson Anthony Placide said the suspect was wanted in connection with the killing of Joshua Boadu in 2018 and alleged supply of crack cocaine between 2017 and 2018.
He added that Adebiyi was arrested in January 2025, after which extradition proceedings were initiated at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The court approved the extradition in February 2026, paving the way for his formal handover to UK law enforcement officials on April 14, 2026, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The Inspector-General of Police reaffirmed the force’s commitment to international cooperation, stressing that Nigeria would not serve as a safe haven for fugitives.
