POLICE FOIL BOMB PLOT IN ONDO, ARREST 16 SUSPECTS
The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State has announced the arrest of 16 suspects over alleged criminal activities, including a foiled bomb plot in the state capital, Akure.
State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, said six of the suspects were linked to a planned attack on government facilities.
He stated that the suspects were intercepted on April 15, 2026, following credible intelligence on their activities and movements across state lines.
According to him, operatives recovered materials suspected to be components for the fabrication of improvised explosive devices, along with other incriminating items.
Items recovered include mobile phones, laptops, cash, suspected charms, identity cards, and motorcycles, as well as documents allegedly detailing potential targets.
Lawal said the suspects had rented an apartment in Akure, which was being used as an operational base, and added that timely intervention prevented a major security breach.
He also confirmed that 10 additional suspects were arrested for cult-related activities in separate operations across the state.
