POLICE FOIL KIDNAP ATTEMPT IN AKWA IBOM, ARREST TWO SUSPECTS AND RECOVER WEAPONS
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully thwarted a kidnap attempt in Eket Local Government Area, arresting two suspects and recovering a cache of dangerous weapons.
Police spokesperson DSP Timfon John disclosed the development in a statement on Monday in Uyo, the state capital.
According to her, the command received a distress call around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday about an attempted abduction along Factory Road, Afia Nsit, in Eket.
The victim, who was rescued unhurt, narrated that he was about to drive into his home when four armed men tried to forcefully enter his vehicle.
“The commotion and prompt arrival of the joint team caused the assailants to flee the scene. A pursuit was initiated, leading to the arrest of two suspects,” the PPRO explained.
The arrested suspects are from Urue-Offong/Oruko and Udung-Uko Local Government Areas, respectively.
During a search of an uncompleted building in a nearby bush, operatives uncovered a sack containing a large cache of weapons. Items recovered included:
One AK-47 rifle with 15 rounds of ammunition and three magazines
One assault rifle with 52 rounds of ammunition and three magazines
One pump-action shotgun with six live cartridges
A Redmi 14C phone, a head warmer, charms, and a pair of black rubber sandals
DSP John assured the public that the police are intensifying efforts to track down the two fleeing suspects.
The successful operation has been hailed as another win in the state’s fight against rising insecurity and kidnapping activities.
