Residents of Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State are demanding answers after a tragic incident involving a young man who reportedly fell into a well while allegedly being chased by security operatives.

According to reports shared on social media by civic platform Let’s Fix It Nigeria, members of the community had earlier raised concerns about repeated cases of police harassment and abuse of power in the area.

The situation reportedly took a dramatic turn on Thursday when officers allegedly pursued a young man around the community. During the chase, the victim was said to have fallen into a well located behind Mega Chiz in Ogwashi-Uku.

As of the time of reporting, authorities had not officially confirmed the full details surrounding the incident. However, eyewitness accounts and community reactions online suggest that the event has sparked tension and outrage among residents.

Reports also revealed that a security officer lost his life during the incident, although the exact circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear and have not yet been independently verified.

Concerned residents and activists have since called on the Nigeria Police Force to conduct a transparent investigation and ensure accountability. Many community members say they are tired of alleged harassment and intimidation by security personnel and want safer policing practices in the area.

Responding publicly through its Complaint Response Unit on X (formerly Twitter), the Nigeria Police Force acknowledged the complaint and confirmed that an investigation is now underway.

In its response, the police stated:

“Your complaint is hereby acknowledged & investigation has been initiated. Your tracking number is #CRU624431.”

The police also directed the Delta State Police Command to urgently look into the matter and report back to the unit.

The incident has continued to generate reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for justice, accountability, and reforms in policing across the country.
